  • Press Release

Modern Myths is a celebration of the timeless tales that have shaped human imagination across cultures and centuries. Referencing the symbols, characters and moral truths embedded in the enduring narratives of ancient Greece, the featured artwork reflects on the universal human need to explain, believe and dream. Featuring painting, printmaking, and watercolor, Modern Myths offers both a mirror to our past and a lens through which to view our present. Selected artists include Edward Holland, George Kanonidis, and Vidvuds Zviedris.

Edward Holland's compositions bring to life a pictorial language whose intellectual and conceptual foundation lies in the sun zodiac. For Holland, the zodiac recalls an antiquated form of storytelling, a way to communicate universal myths about humanity and the natural world.

George Kanonidis' artwork is inspired by the spectrum of everyday life. Born in Greece and self-taught he has been artistically influenced by abstract expressionism. Diving deep into the chaos of feelings, Kanonidis’ intention is to capture a moment of uniqueness through color and to transmit these emotions onto the canvas.

In a dizzying mixture of allusions to the natural world and to art historical canon, Vidvuds Zviedris elicits a transcendent beauty through his powerfully dynamic brushstrokes, making use of a full spectrum of contrasting colors.
