Biography
Joseph Conrad-Ferm discovered his calling to form a creative practice later in life. Ferm states, "In late December of 2001, in the boiler room of my mother's basement, with no reference point, I felt compelled to paint. Having no formal art training, apart from elementary and secondary school classes, my first efforts, were the foundation that I have built my creative voice on. I've been able to express the joys and pitfalls, of my total life experience, through a language that's universal."
Ferm's intention is to reveal a complex and timeless process that is easy to engage with. His practice is such that he is compelled to paint when he is feeling good and when he is feeling otherwise. His evolution is clear, "It used to pour out of me, as fast as I could move the brush, though I've since learned to restrain my efforts. My recent process in the studio has become quite intense, by design."
